In this session Florian will share the morning practice that starts the day for every student of the shaolin wushu institute in Henan (China). Externally focussed exercises like hard qi gong strengthen the body while meditative exercises are used to sharpen ones focus and awareness. The balance between the external and internal forms the basis of all shaolin exercises.

LET THE BODY SPEAK – MOVEMENT AND VOICE // with Marlene

The aim of this class is to explore the voice as part of the body and to integrate it into contemporary movement practice. Through playful exercises and improvisations we will find ways in which the sounds we create through breathing and voicing can help us to discover and enrich the dynamics of a movement and how, in return, movement can help to bring forth voice. Taking into account the intimacy and vulnerability that can come with sharing ones voice, we will create a safe space for everyone with or without prior experience to learn to understand it as a powerful source for connecting with ourselves and with each other.

This workshop combines the joy of moving, the desire to experience one’s own home/body in dance and encourages the research of one’s own movement potential together in a group. The warm-up invites to consciously and presently compose your own dance in movement and in relation to the space and all participants. From floor to jump level we work on clarity in relation to the initiation of movement, the use of the floor as well as the spatial orientation and research movement principles to enable ease and dynamic flow when dancing together. Improvisation tasks with partners will be part of the session as well as floorwork, elements from acrobatics and instant composition.

MARTIAL ARTS FLOW – FUNDAMENTALS

This workshop aims to connect the movement vocabulary and the aesthetics of modern shaolin kungfu with contemporary dance.
From the countless styles and schools of kungfu we will focus on changchuan, a northern shaolin style, which translates to longfist.
Core principles of modern kungfu will meet with a set of movements aiming to improve agility, flexibility and strength leaving space to improvise and play with the material.
Also, we will establish a meditative routine making use of inward focused exercises originating from qi gong and taichi.

This class will give you the chance to take a step back and appreciate this wonderful body of yours. So many small parts and structures, so many connections. A whole number of chain reactions are happening inside your body while you move through your training and everyday life and sometimes it can be the smallest change in your movement that makes all the difference. Together we will explore our anatomy in motion, find connections in the body and get to know ourselves a little better – from our feet, through our hips and pelvis, up to our spine and beyond.

In their classes Sarah and Flo strive to create a dynamic fluid concept of partner acrobatics, using elements of Acro Yoga, dance and contact improvisation. Partnering allows us to connect and combine our movements, strengths and flows in new ways – acrobatic moves seem possible all of a sudden and balancing together creates new aspects of flow. In a playful, open for all approach this class will be a playground for partner acrobatics, partnering, balancing, laughing, flying and falling together.

In this class we explore how we can create kinetic flow with another person, searching for a space where we can dissolve our individual identities and experience interconnectedness. We will begin by understanding what it actually means to be in flow with our solo body and extend this into the complexity of partner work. As a meta -practise we will practise both communication and adaptation to cultivate a courages space where we can both respect each other and transcend what keeps us apart.

Rosalie’s class is energetic and playful. We’ll slide & roll, we’ll jump & fall. We start this POWER CONTEMPORARY class with a yoga inspired warm-up, increase the intensity across the floor as the class progresses, and run and jump until we finally break a sweat. The class is an open level class and a safe space where we can push ourselves to the limit and try out without judgement.

In this workshop we will go on a journey exploring the in-between. We’ll seek pauses in time, emptiness in space and meaning created by that what is not explicitly said/danced/filled out. How can a gap shape the whole, how can intervals give life to new meaning? Moving along the lines of the Japanese concept ‚Ma‘, negative space in visual art and solid-void theory in architecture, we’ll dream up a space in which we can find a deeper sense of presence, get in touch with our performativity, discover meaning between the lines and move into the now.We’ll improvise, experiment and play with these ideas through dance, alone and as a group, shaping the space into something new or different.

TAPING FOR MOVERS // with Sarah

This class will give a practical introduction to K-Taping (Kinesio-Taping). Everybody knows those colorful tapes people often use to support overloaded or injured joints and muscles but how can you use them yourself? Physiotherapist Sarah will give you an introduction to how and why they work, what’s their use and limitations. Learn how to tape your knees, ankles, wrists & shoulders, etc. yourself and stay safe throughout your training.

We will improvise and draw inspiration from different artforms such as contemporary visual art and experimental music. With years of experience as a dancer & photographer, Ati shares his knowledge on how to effectively freeze a dancer’s movements in time. The Art of wielding a sword, in an artistic and expressive way, is thousands of years old. The chinese form of it is called “jian wu” and is strongly connected to chinese kung fu.
In this workshop we will dive into the fundamentals of modern kung fu, basic understanding of timing and how to generate force. Then we will get in touch with the sword, its basic techniques and how to smoothly connect the swordplay with the rest of the body. These techniques will then be put together in a larger choreography inspired by both classical sword dancing, as well as modern kung fu routines.
